Install Ceiling Fan and Garage Door Opener

Hello Rogier,

Thank you for your question! You asked for an opinion of cost on a job that you are doing. I received 2 partial questions: "install new pre assembled (by owner) Hampton " and "1/2HP Sears garage door opener no longer"

I usually figure 1 to 1 1/4 hours to install a ceiling fan. They have two challenges: Is the box rated for a ceiling fan? And, how many pieces is the ceiling fan in? To replace the electrical box and install a fan rated box can add another 1-2 hours. Five blade fans with light kits can add to the time too. Hope this helps.

Regarding the garage door opener, if it looks like the install will go smoothly I'd charge my customers a flat fee of $100. If it will take some extra work I'd charge by the hour and figure 2-3 hours to do the work. That would include lubricating the door and checking that everything is snug.

Hope this is of some help,

Thanks for asking,
