Thank you for your question! You asked for an opinion on the cost of a job. Here was your question: "Need a closet built from scratch in bedroom, appx size = 5 feet by two feet, seven feet high (floor to ceiling)."
This would probably be a 2-3 day task for a single handyman to accomplish. Obviously there are lots of variables that contribute to the time required. What type of door will be installed, will there be a light in the closet, how will the walls be finished and are there issues with the flooring or an existing carpet. If the handyman is charging $400 per day in labor plus materials it would not be surprising to find the total cost to build coming close to $2000.
In California an unlicensed handyman could not legally perform this work. The minor work exemption limits unlicensed activities to $500 total invoice per job. Please check the local regulations in North Oxford, MA. Protect yourself by hiring a licensed contractor.
