askthehandyman.net - How much should I charge to lay floor tile?

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your question! I would propose that you charge by the hour
instead of by the square foot using your regular hourly rate. That would
set you apart from the others and would let the customer know that he/she
will only pay for the time it actually takes.

Hope this is of some help,

Bob

Hi Bob,
You have helped me in the past concerning my handyman business on the side
of my day job and I would like to thank you for your advice. My question is
what to charge for laying down a ceramic tile floor in a 20 x 20 area. In NJ
the going rate is anywhere from 5 - 10 dollars sqr ft. Customers going the
handyman route are looking for something more economical than this rate,
however I don't want to cut my own throat on this job. It would require
laying down the bed, tile cutting and grout later on. All which require a
good amount of labor. What do you suggest? Thank you in advance for your
time.
Best regards, Jim
